Mathieu joined the Policy Division of the Department of Mobility and Public Works (dMOW) on 1 June 2023.In 2022, he graduated with a master's degree in international politics, followed by an additional master's degree in European studies. For this, he graduated in 2023. This opened the door to then start working as a policy officer at dMOW's Policy Department on 1 June 2023. Since then, he has worked on a wide variety of mobility policy dossiers, both around road and waterborne transport. Most of his duties revolved around the Flemish Green Deal Inland Navigation. Since 1 July 2024, he has succeeded his colleague Andries Peperstraete as account manager between the Policy Department and the legal department of dMOW on all water-related dossiers. As a result, in addition to inland navigation, a whole range of maritime dossiers have been added to his remit, of which representation in the Coast Guard is one.
He will contribute to the follow-up of policy developments that may be relevant for the Coast Guard. This will ensure that the operational tasks of the Coast Guard partners can continue smoothly.
Specifically, he will represent the Policy Division on the Coast Guard Consultative Body.
His first impression of the Coast Guard is that the partnership is a good example of what often distinguishes Belgium from other countries in terms of governance, which is the strong cooperation that exists between very different actors and authorities around an issue with shared interests.
